A Flavor to Avoid in Your Ice Cream

Three Scoops of Reasons to avoid rBGH: Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone also known as Bovine Somatrotropin, bST, is a genetically engineered version of the growth hormone natually produced by cows and marketed by Monsanto as Posila to increase milk production.

1. rBGH is linked to udder infections, which results in the cows being treated with antibiotics and ultimately creating human antibiotic resistance.

2. Additional hormones from rBGH are cited as a major factor causing increased number of multiple human births.

3. rBGH injected cows have significantly elevated levels of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1), which spurs cellular growth function and is linked with increased rates of breast, prostrate, and colon cancer.
