National Dairy Act—2004

The following draft is proposed by a coalition of farmers from different regions of the country. The goal of this program is to establish a long-term supply management system controlled by farmers. The program is based upon the principles of fair market prices, targeting to family-sized farms, and regional equity.

This proposal is not meant to impose any economic hardship on family dairy farmers whose total milk production is a consecutive 12-month period is less than either: (a) 1.5 million pounds; or (b) less than 25 percent of the average production of his or her region, whichever is greater.
